Brake Caliper – CAD Modeling Project

This Single Piston Brake Caliper was designed and modeled over the course of 1 Month (November 2025). The project focused on understanding hydraulic braking systems and translating real-world mechanical components into accurate SolidWorks assemblies.

The planning phase involved researching real brake caliper systems, studying hydraulic force conversion, and sketching preliminary layouts before beginning the CAD modeling process. This structured approach significantly strengthened my research workflow and technical sketching skills.

Throughout the project, I improved my ability to design fully constrained assemblies, manage part relationships, and apply precise mechanical tolerances. This project reinforced my strength in CAD modeling and advanced my SolidWorks proficiency.

Component Breakdown

Caliper Body

Main structural housing that converts hydraulic pressure into clamping force.

Piston Bore

Guides piston motion when brake fluid pressure is applied.

Brake Pads

Inner pad is pushed by piston, outer pad clamps via sliding mechanism.

Guide Pins

Allow lateral caliper movement for even pressure distribution.

Brake Line

Transfers hydraulic fluid from master cylinder to caliper body.

18mm Bolt System

Standardized fastener design ensuring structural integrity.
